Abstract

The phenomenon of migration cyclically insists on social balances, by developing frictions but also providing opportunities for mutual enrichment. In time of globalization, pandemics, populism and economic crisis, migrants are often the target of discrimination and toxic narratives, especially online. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to foster the intercultural education of pupils of Roma origin, which, starting from school, can also spread to non-formal and informal contexts such as associations and third-sector entities, to ensure the inclusion of young migrants and their families. Acceptance, respect for differences and dialogue are important requirements of a correct intercultural approach, but educational research methods that enhance the active participation of the recipients are equally essential. The communicative methodology and that of Action Research are realized through an egalitarian approach that is truly usable by the young subjects, who in turn become the clients of the investigation, catalyzing the proposal of solutions. The proposed educational pathway for primary and secondary school pupils is inspired by Tandem project, which combines language and cultural learning thanks to the contribution of teachers and cultural mediators. The linguistic exchange in the Italian/Romani version together with the administration of questionnaires to stimulate sensitivity to the customs of the Other can facilitate the understanding of the strident diversities. Furthermore, the viewing of TV series such as the Italian "Mare fuori", which seals the love between an Italian boy and a Roma teenager, encourages interaction between divergent cultures, de-constructing the prejudices sometimes induced by the media themselves and promoting the conviviality of differences as a permanent cognitive habit of a more inclusive and humane society.
